FOR THE PLOT: Possibilities out of Anxiety
A writer who knows the characters well can plan events that will push each character’s buttons and produce logically yet vividly dramatic events. So, yes, you can apply the Anxiety Curve concepts to all characters.
Do you know people who ignore the disorganization of clutter in home and office yet become agitated when schedules are not kept? If sarcastic anger or manipulative coaxing is how this person copes with an unacceptable stressor, wouldn’t the writer want to use this in the story plot?
Taking it one step further, the writer can select pivotal events that truly push the character to the limits of their ability to cope. The result is logically Rising Tension. Identify each character’s emotional breaking point then put that person on the dramatic path that will demand the supreme emotional effort . in their effort to return to the “normal” apex of their Anxiety Curve . and take the satisfied audience along for the high-power ride.
